The Half Note Jazz | Thomas Linger Trio

Thomas Linger is a multi-award-winning pianist and composer born in 1993 in the small Appalachian town of Waynesville, North Carolina. After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, he quickly made his mark on the national jazz scene—winning first place in the American Jazz Pianist Competition before relocating to New York City in 2017.

In 2023, Linger was named one of five laureates of the American Piano Awards, the most prestigious jazz piano competition in the United States, offering the highest-value grand prize of its kind at over $200,000.

Now regarded as one of the most sought-after performers, composers, and educators in jazz, Thomas has appeared at many of the genre’s most revered venues, including The Village Vanguard, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and Dizzy’s Club. He has also held longstanding residencies at iconic New York clubs such as Smalls Jazz Club, Mezzrow, and Ornithology.
